Here’s What I Think of the Nanni AI App as a Certified Pediatric Sleep Consultant
Nowadays, most of us have at least one kind of “smart” technology in our homes. We ask Alexa about the weather, tell Siri to turn on the lights, and manage different aspects of our lives with apps or similar remote functions.
As a result, it’s no surprise that artificial intelligence is becoming equally ubiquitous in the parenthood department as well. New families are using tech for all sorts of childhood challenges, including monitoring their baby’s sleep/wake schedules, making note of important pediatric milestones, and trying to figure out the “why behind the cry.”
I recently tried the Nanni AI app to see for myself just how handy AI can be for a busy mom. Granted, as a professionally trained pediatric sleep consultant, I do have a little more insight into babies than the average person simply because of my job! And as it turns out, there were several pros to using the Nanni AI app in an assistive capacity to see my baby’s growth, feeding, and activity all in one place. So let’s dive in!
The DL on AI and parenting
With the advent of artificial intelligence, we’ve inevitably started pulling up channels like ChatGPT for quick questions and trivial concerns. It’s like a streamlined version of the Google rabbit hole, where parents of young children can poke around between pediatrician checkups and sleep hygiene consultations. As a mom of seven, I’ll admit to plugging in the occasional silly worry just to feel better about it ASAP!
Our generation is fortunate to have access to that rapid-fire response system when the doctor’s office is closed. It gives us answers curated from millions of online sources in an instant. For that reason, AI is a great tool.
But it’s just that: a tool.
I’m cautious to remember that technology is not a reliable replacement for being an accurately informed parent, especially during the tougher times. After all, my cell phone isn’t going to get a fussy baby to sleep at 3 a.m.! We still have to deal with the ups and downs as they happen. That said, Nanni AI works well to supplement my goals as a parent. I’m happy to have come across an app that makes monitoring my baby’s daily routine such a breeze.
I also like that Ubenwa Health (the startup behind Nanni AI) is run by qualified med-tech researchers who studied infants to determine the main causes of crying, arranging those causes into four categories: hunger, discomfort, emotion, and pain. While it’s marketed as a “cry translator,” I’ve found that Nanni AI is best applied in a more holistic capacity so that parents can learn how to care for their baby through firsthand experience with the added benefit of AI to expand upon that skillset.
My take on the Nanni AI app
The Nanni AI app is free to download on Apple iOS and Android devices, which I appreciated immediately. Parents have enough expenses to worry about, so it would’ve been a hassle to commit to a cost-based subscription for this service. “Free” often means “poorly made,” but you won’t get that here!
It’s worth noting that cry translation is limited to 2 cries per day for free users. Parents wanting to translate more cries subscribe to a premium plan, which gives them access to unlimited cry translations. Tracking the routines (sleep, feeds, diapers) and milestones is, however, entirely free!
I can confidently say that Nanni AI does a wonderful job of supporting my family. Its sensible design offers awesome features to keep me and my baby organized throughout the day, from morning tummy time to late-night feedings.
Sleep and wake windows
I’ve always been an advocate for tracking your baby’s sleep and wake windows in an app. Since parenthood is by definition crazy-busy, it’s easy to miss logging those crucial awake windows, causing my four-month-old to become overtired. But Nanni AI has been a really valuable tool for staying on top of sleep and feedings, even supplying me with data on the information I’ve entered already as well as predicting trends going forward.
Notes and resources
One of my favorite parts of the app is that I can record voice entries and notes on the fly while breastfeeding or holding my baby, so it’s hands-free and convenient no matter what I’m doing in the moment. I also love that there’s a section of the app dedicated to providing resources for parents such as pediatric milestones, sample sleep schedules, and bedtime story examples. Educational and adorable.
The “cry translator”
Ultimately, my only critique is less of a problem and more of a reminder. Though it may be reassuring for new parents struggling to decode their baby’s cries, Nanni AI’s “cry translator” shouldn’t be the go-to method for effectively tending to your little one’s needs—at least, not in place of your own intuition. It’s true that parental instincts take years to develop, but if you’re anxious to stop the crying right away, just know that everything has a learning curve. No parent is perfect, and neither is AI!
Technology like Nanni AI helps us understand more about our babies, but only you can build a healthy foundation for your child. Utilize the tech, trust your gut, and consult with a pediatric sleep specialist to address any related issues that arise. With Nanni AI and My Sweet Sleeper on your side, you’ll have every tool at your disposal to become the Baby Whisperer in no time. You’ve got this!
Your best cry translator? My Sweet Sleeper!
Overall, I’m a big fan of the Nanni AI app and recommend it to clients looking to organize their baby’s activity (sleeping, waking, feeding, etc.) in a single convenient destination on their device. It’s a data-driven and versatile assistant for parents of infants and small children, and it’s affordable to boot. Personally, it’s made the hectic days less exhausting and more controllable for me and my bustling household!
