Here’s why we are loving this video monitor from Nannio
**Edit: Sleep Consultant Melinda Muyargas has recently tried Nannio’s newest monitor, the Hero3. You can read about their new budget friendly options by reading the article The Nannio Hero3: A simple baby monitor you’ll love.
Baby monitors are one of those must-have registry items that have come a long way in the last decade, offering parents flexibility to move about while their baby sleeps and provide peace of mind in those first few months of life especially. With video features, sound and temperature controls, and Wi-Fi capabilities, it is now easier than ever to ensure that your baby is sleeping soundly and safely.
While this is great for new moms and moms-to-be, it can also be a bit overwhelming when trying to select the right baby monitor. Basic audio-only monitors can be as low as $20, while high-end monitors with fancy features can cost up to $500! With such a huge range, it’s hard to know what the right option is for you, which is why we were excited to try a new affordable monitor: the Nannio Connect Smart Baby Monitor.
This monitor has several features that are share-worthy, from the app that is easy to navigate to the reasonable price point.
Here are the main reasons we love this monitor…
Option to use your phone as a monitor screen
They have an app you can use as a monitor, giving you the ability to see your baby on your phone from anywhere. It also comes with an actual monitor so you don’t have to use your phone if you don’t want to. I found that I preferred to use the monitor itself when I was at home, but it was fun checking the baby on my phone if I went out for the evening and left her home with dad. You can connect the camera to multiple phones (it’s done securely, with a password that you set), so I had my husband download the app as well. If the baby was doing something silly in her crib, I could even text him to tell him to check his app while at work and see for himself!
The remotely-movable camera
You can use the monitor or your phone as a remote to move the camera’s angle. This means that even if my baby rolled, crawled, or stood out of sight (she’s an active sleeper!), I could remotely move the camera to point in another direction. This is such a fun feature! The camera can literally see your whole room. I once even used this feature to watch my baby play with her toys on the floor while I took a shower!
Screenshots and videos
Using the app, you can take screenshots and videos. I love this feature, as I can record fun clips of my baby rolling around like crazy in her sleep, or standing up after a nap and not knowing how to sit back down yet! The photos and videos save to a folder on your phone so you can share them or download them to your computer.
Sound and temperature alerts
With the sound alert setting, you can set the sensitivity of volume that you want to be alerted for. When that volume is reached, the audio and video of your monitor will automatically switch on (if you had them off). As for temperature, you can set both a low and a high temperature, and your monitor will sound an alarm when the baby’s room temperature goes out of range. Note: We found that the displayed temperature was actually 7 degrees off, so when you get your monitor, test out the temperature display with your own thermometer so you know and can apply the discrepancy.
The long-lasting battery
I leave the sound and display on for all my baby’s naps, and I don’t have to plug the monitor back in until I go to bed at night.
The reasonable price
The Nannio monitor costs $120 to $170, which is very reasonable considering all of the unique features. For a monitor with an app, a camera that can be remotely moved, good quality night-vision video, two-way talk, optional lullabies, a long-lasting battery, and alert systems, the price is justifiable. It basically has everything that the high-end monitors offer, besides breathing or heart rate detection.
Nannio also makes other models, which is great if you are looking for something a little cheaper. These models do not offer the app, but they have many of the other neat features.
FollowMe: $99-$106 - This one sounds neat because it has auto motion tracking, rather than you remotely moving the camera! It also has two-way talk, temperature alerts, works for up to 4 cameras, has feed timer alerts you can set, and has optional lullabies that can play from the camera.
Comfy Plus: $80-$86 - This one seems good if you have more than one camera (for more than one baby), as it will automatically switch your monitor to the camera where noise was made. It also has the pan-tilt-zoom options to follow the baby remotely, just like the Connect does, as well as two-way talk, temperature alerts, optional feed timer alerts, and lullabies.
Eye: $99.99 - This one advertises its ability to be set up easily at any angle with 360 degree positioning, using its magnetic stand or a small tripod. It also has two-way talk, works with up to 4 camera, has optional feed timer alerts, and lullabies.
